THE SÂNPETRU BIOARCHAEOLOGY FIELDSCHOOL
We have teamed up with the Institute for Field Research (IFR) and Romanian academic and non-profit Institutions to train students in the osteological analysis of medieval assemblages and archaeological excavation methods and practice in the fortified Saxon church of the Transylvanian village of Sânpetru.

Learning activities
​
Participants will receive instruction and training in archaeological and bioarchaeological theory and practice on:​

Archaeological excavation of areas of the Saxon fortified church

Ethical handling and post excavation processing of human skeletal remains from Transylvanian medieval cemeteries - cleaning, conservation and storage

Basic skeletal anatomy and analytical methods

Methods for interpreting the burial context and for recording bioarchaeological data

Archaeological site and finds photography

Daily activities will alternate lectures, seminars and lab activities. Participants will also be able to enjoy and discover Transylvania on weekly fieldtrips and their own free time.
